I have had a lot of requests from you about what would be some of my core beliefs that I live by. 1 - Always be honest - The reality of life is that we all make mistakes. I have made more mistakes than all of you and I continue to make them, but covering them up and continuing to lie to yourself and others is an injustice to YOURSELF. I find that when you lie, it also causes you great stress and tension! It can be incredibly hard to face the truth, but once you have, and once you commit to always being truthful, you are one step closer to success and happiness. Doing the right thing is always harder - but it is much more rewarding. 2 - Reputation - I grew up in poverty - in a village with no running water and no electricity and my Father was a POW (Prisoner of War). I was teased by other kids about how I was poor and wore "hand me down" clothes and couldnt afford toys, but year after year, decade after decade, I developed my own reputation of not being afraid of hard work and never accepting a handout. I am proud of where I came from and I worked hard to establish a sound reputation. Remember, a reputation takes DECADES to build and a single second to destroy. 3 - Live within your means - Whilst many of you may laugh at this, my wife gives me a $500 weekly allowance. Many would think we live a luxurious existence but we have lived in the same house for almost 30 years and both of us have driven the same car for 6 years. We holiday once a year. We are privileged to be in a position where we give generously to several charities. Teach your children and yourselves the value of the money. My wife and I both still shop at TARGET and only 2 years ago, I bought my first tailored suit. It is only when you value money, that you will learn how to make money in abundance. If you cannot afford to go on holidays, DONT GO ! It saddens me that people live to impress others and put themselves in debt in the process. Stop living off credit cards! Learn how to budget and more importantly, teach your children how to budget. 4 - Work hard. So many people are unfortunately still looking for the quick buck. Let me assure you, it doesnt exist and it never will. Someone said to me the other day, which amused me, "its easy for you Maha, you just bought the land and now it is worth a fortune" - to cut a long story short, that is simply untrue. Greater Springfield has taken 2 decades of my life and still has a long way to go. You have to work, work, work and then work some more if you want success. You must be prepared to get up early, go to bed late, not have holidays and work on weekends. That is the reality. Some people may make it "look easy" but every single person that is successful, is incredibly focused and never ever stops thinking about work. It is made 1000 times easier when you actually love your work. 5 - Learn to get along with people. This doesnt mean that you have to be a people pleaser. I can be incredibly tough with my team in the office. I also reward them and thank them and tell them how valuable they are. I truly want them to be rich, successful and happy. It makes me happy to know I have been part of their journey. You will always disagree with people, but just because you have a different perspective, always know you can still be civil to them. 6 - Set goals. I always used to tell my children, "Not having goals is like playing football with no goal posts". Its true. This is one of the only true measures of whether you are on your way to success and happiness. 7 - Find what makes you happy. I have said this before. I really really LOVE my work. I think about it all the time, to the point that my wife, has made a rule no talking about work at dinner, because, honestly, I could talk about it day or night. You must feel that way about what you do. I could not imagine not doing something I love. If you cannot do what you love now because of family or financial reasons, then come up with a PLAN as to how you can. You OWE this to yourself!
