I have just gone through some of the posts on this page and I actually teared up a bit, but in joy. It has been a long time since I have felt proud of being Australian because it just seems like so many continue to prove themselves as lacking both compassion and common sense, particularly towards asylum seekers and refugees. However, I think I was too quick to lose hope because the people in this group have reinstated my faith in our country and our community. The situation with these teenagers and the effect it has and will have on the asylum seeker and refugee community is incredibly saddening. As young people we should make sure that the government doesnt continue creating situations that we as future generations will have to say sorry for. This isnt humane or ethical, our treatment of asylum seekers and refugees must improve. We need to uphold both our moral and legal obligations. This is our time to speak up and make ourselves heard. I am so happy that so many beautifully kind Aussies are on this journey with me. I love you all very much :)
