I have never heard God’s voice. When I was younger, I had visions that someday He would talk to me like He did with Moses in the popular Hollywood movie “The 10 Commandments”, starring Charlton Heston. As I grew older and presumably wiser, I realized most of the people God had these in-person conversations with were being called for a very difficult and great purpose, accompanied by an equal amount of hardship and sacrifice, sometimes even their life. So now I’m thinking maybe it’s okay I’ve never heard His voice in-person. Still, I do believe God leads and guides us in our lives, even intervenes when we pray and ask Him to. In my life, especially my everyday life, I have come to find this in the way of an inner stir or “nudge”. Sometimes the nudge comes in the form of a door closing on one opportunity, or opening for another. Sometimes it is a timely conversation with a friend, a song with just the right message at just the right time, a beautiful display in nature or art, or a coincidence that surprises me enough to cause me to “pause”. Life goes on, and it is often a very busy life that goes on in the “pause”, so the trick for me has been to notice when I’ve been “nudged”, then to create the “pause”, that is a kind of an ongoing spiritual high alert for figuring out what God might be nudging me to see in a unique new way, or understand in a deeper one. Have you had a God nudge lately? A pause? Did it bring peace of mind, healing, confirmation for a decision, or perhaps the answer to prayer? If so, I hope you’ll consider sharing it in this community so we all can be encouraged by the way God works in our everyday thoughts and lives.
