I have owned, cared for and tamed rats since I was about 13 years old. I am 35 now, I went a couple years without any and decided it was time, so I adopted two sisters 7 months ago, they were very young. I handled them, Ive been nice to them and so have my family, I tried to make them tame like Ive done to lots of babies, they would sit on my shoulder or lay in my pocket. I have to say these are the biggest Divas ever. They will only let me pet them, not hold without jumping out of my hands or squeaking at me and I dont like stressing them out. I am about to give up on them, to much time and money not to have rats that are easily handled. If you think there is a way I am open to advice. They have not bitten me or the kids, but I know what they do and dont like and avoid conflict. If you think they just dont plain like us, and you can do better I will give them to you for free.
