I have said it before but there was a certain smugness amongst many on the left about the perceived ethical and operational superiority of the Co-Operative Banking Group. It would now appear that this particular organisation is as guilty of as poor and reckless business decisions and moral turpitude amongst certain members of its senior staff, as any other banking organisation. Suffice to say that the fatuous, complacent sense of superiority has been replaced with silence. It would be better replaced with recognition that greed and avarice exist in most industries and sectors , as do poor practices and executive decision making. It is not confined to Banking, its is often endemic, dare I say, it even exists in the venerable public sector. Failure should never be enjoyed or provide a guilty pleasure , but should provide a deep cause for regret given the often profound consequences for staff, shareholders and consumers alike. That should never be forgotten, and whether on the right or left, we should all know better.
