I have seen some comments about eating habits. I would like to share what I have learned from having a shorkie for almost 5 years. Info we got from a dog food rep as well as our vet. The higher protein food they eat the less they may want to eat. Bella only gets Blue Buffalo since it is grain free and all natural (best to avoid skin irritations), has vitamins and has no fillers like corn. Most foods contain corn as a primary ingredient (first on the list of ingredients) just as filler and does not have any nutritional value. With the Blue Buffalo the serving size is about half to three fourths that of other foods due to the protein content. It does cost a little more but if you consider the serving size and the frequency of eating it is about the same as most common brands but you know they are eating healthy. Bella may eat twice today and only once the next couple of days depending on her activity level. She may not eat at all one day a week. We give her nothing but all natural treats so if she doesnt eat she still gets a little nutrients throughout the day. No Jerky treats due to the issues with salmonella recalls and no people food. I have had some friends with small dogs that have had issues with pancreatitis due to them feeding even small amounts of people food. They are just like our children, expect us to love and care for them so why not take care of them so they live as long as they can. We all know that day will come and we dont want to do anything to shorten their days. A lot of info here but hope it is beneficial to someone. On a side note generally speaking to those of you that dont like dog poop piling up in the yard to step in of run your mower through that is what it is waste the fillers in the food. It can also cause dead spots in your lawn. With the Blue Buffalo it will break down relatively quick and want cause any issues. (I do not work for or represent Blue Buffalo foods. Information stated here is solely my personal experience with their products.)
