I have some sad news ~ Serendipity: Seren arrived last week - TopicsExpress

I have some sad news ~ Serendipity: Seren arrived last week with a nasty damaged eye. On inspection I thought it looked like a piece of wire or something similar had gone through it. She was in a world of pain.. I arranged a vet immediately as I normally send all horses to Manly Rd vets to their amazing eye specialist Pauline Gavin but Seren was far to sick to be transported such a distance to start with. So I arranged Gold Coast Equine Vets to come and assess her... The vet told me she would most probably lose her eye but her body condition wasnt good enough for a GA.. Manly Rd take eyes out standing mostly so I thought id manage her pain until she was well enough to travel. Today I had her transported to Manly Rd vets and sadly the outcome wasnt good.. Seren didnt have a wound at all, it was an extremely deep ulcer left far to long before treatment. Paulines exact words The eye is almost about to bust... But this was just the beginning of her problems. Sadly, her other eye was just as bad with a nasty very old untreated ulcer. Serendipity has been left far to long before treatment and this has deemed both of her eyes un-saveable. On advice for Pauline Seren will be immediately euthanized. I am absolutely devastated and seeing a horse who has endured such neglect arrive to us when its to late to help her is horrible . I just dont understand people!! Thank you to Manly rd for doing all they can to help our beautiful horses... Breeze ~ Poor breeze came to us with horrible long hooves about 2 weeks ago.. We had our master farrier trim her up but from the dish in her hooves you could see she had laminitis at some stage in her life. At first she didnt have high pulses in her hooves but this started to progress over the last few days so I arranged for her to go to Redlands hospital as quickly as I could. Breeze has chronic laminitis and will stay at Redlands until she is fitted with corrective shoes and is walking sound.. Then she will come home to the Beaudesert Sanctuary.. This beautiful mare will take a while to heal but im confident with the right shoes and diet we can have her paddock sound and happy. Thank you to Redlands Hospital for everything they have done to help. Ill update everyone else tomorrow... Sorry guys, its been a huge emotional day and im exhausted.... Amanda
