I have to say after re-watching our Superior Perfect and Fantastic - TopicsExpress

I have to say after re-watching our Superior Perfect and Fantastic performance in Piscataway that day, I dont think any of us realized the journey it would set us all on. I was a 51, barely through puberty, Freshman carrying the smallest Bass Drum in the line that day and had no idea where this marching band experience would take me. I also had no idea that a music teacher could have such a profound impact on someones life. Many of the skills and disciplines I apply in my life to this day were born that day and through the four years we sculpted that Superior, Perfect and Fantastic culture. I was fortunate to be asked to lead this merry band of kids once I became a Senior as Band President and felt extremely proud to represent my peers as well as the program we had built. Mr T., I dont know if you remember this, but one day I stayed after school to help the freshman Cymbal Players who were having a hard time understanding that even though they were only cymbal players they had a real role and it was just as important as everybody else. We crashed cymbals for a few hours until they got it. I think you actually were in your office, so there is no way you didnt hear the whole thing. Maybe you left half way through, but the important piece was we stayed, I STAYED, until they got it. You instilled this sense of belonging and purpose as well as a desire to be the best. I have carried that with me ever since and I guess this is a long winded thank you. So, THANK YOU!!! David Monson Band President 1985-1986
