I hear about shit like this and it doesnt shock me. I used to live literally no more than twenty feet from where this happened. My father still lives there. I didnt pay for the train for five years (even when only visiting Chicago) because I was friends with the people who run the Kedzie station. This neighborhood has gotten better (slightly less violent) in the last 15 years since I moved there. I remember walking home from the train and hearing gun shots. Getting inside my house, finishing a tv show, starting dinner and starting to eat before I heard any sirens. Funny thing is when I lived at my mothers house (two blocks away) in Ravenswood (where you could regularly find our ex governor jogging) there were no gun shots. There were speed bumps everywhere. There was a park where they had picnics and coffee shops everywhere. I got to see how the ex governors presence was enough to create police activity. I watched as brown families were moved out of Ravenswood to make room for the white familys that could afford the absurdly expensive remodeled condominiums popping up everywhere. And every morning there would be the governor- jogging with his secret service tucked safely on his side like a gun. He never jogged all the way to Albany Park though. Never could make it past Kedzie. None of those resources really did either. I wonder what school these kids went to. Roosevelt? Northside College prep? I wonder what kind of resources they have. I wonder if they ever saw Blagojavich run. And just as important, it proves that government is supposed to exist for the good of the people, not the other way around, and certainly not for the personal enrichment of those who hold public office. -Rod Blagojevich (Removed from office and imprisoned after being found guilty on corruption charges)
