I heard a story this afternoon about a local family that is skipping Thanksgiving and Christmas because of a mill layoff. No one should have to skip holidays in a land as abundant as ours! So what do we do about it? There are over 1,000 people who have been laid off from area mills recently and many more affected in related businesses. Food and Medicine in Brewer is putting together Thanksgiving baskets full of Maine food and products for workers in all industries who are going through tough times. Each one costs about $30 to assemble and deliver. I think that through the community of followers on this page we can donate 50 baskets. Malorie and I will match the first ten ones. What do you say? Will you chip in? Even if you can only afford $5 or $10 it will go a long way. And if you cant afford anything, please help to spread the word and keep the many people dealing with tough economic times in your thoughts and prayers. And if youre going through tough times yourself, please know that this community cares about you! Here is the link to donate, please consider it! foodandmedicine.org/solidarity-harvest/donate-to-solidarity-harvest
