I hit one of the most awesome golf shots of my life on Saturday, - TopicsExpress

I hit one of the most awesome golf shots of my life on Saturday, but ended up scoring a triple bogey on the hole, which made my nine hole score 41 on the par 35 nine. Dog-leg right and I hit my tee shot down the right edge, but it goes a little right of where Im aiming and ends up behind 2 palm trees. Now, Ive got a swing and I can punch it under the trees and if I hit it hard enough to reach the green, it most definitely is going to hit the leaves of the first tree, then the leaves of the second tree as it rises---if it doesnt hit a branch and go God-knows-where. Now the problem playing a punch & roll is that theres ALSO the slight problem that there is a pond in front of the green which I must carry, that also goes right and left of the smallish, hard green. (the greens where sickeningly small and hard as a rock). Ok, so I cant just drive it low and roll it onto the green....I have to hit it high enough that it hits the leaves on both trees but still carries onto the green. Normally, I am a pretty conservative player, but hitting out sideways and leaving myself 150 yard iron shot onto a virtual island didnt seem so great, either....and, because I was cutting the corner....I just thought a 7 -iron might just tick the leaves on tree #1, then the leaves on tree #2 and it would make it over the water & stop on the green. So, for one of the only times I my life, I said what the heck...no guts no glory... and hit the shot. Unfortunately, somehow, the ball did not get hung up very much at all when it hit the leaves and it carried over the pond, hit somewhere around the middle of the green and rolled over the back edge.....where, unbeknownst to me, it went straight down hill into the water which wrapped around the green in the back , too. I felt sick when I look over the back of the green and saw the steep slope and water....BUT, my ball was not in the water, but got hung up on some weeds & roots before the water.......so now Ive got an uphill pitch/chip onto a small hard green which is sloping away from me and I have to swing hard enough to cut through those weeds/roots..........so I get it on the green and it rolls all the way across the green & over the close shaved fringe and into the water on the other side. Penalty stroke, a chip, and 2 putts later, Ive got a 7 on the hole, but still cannot believe I tried that shot and pulled it off. It wasnt a bad day. 430 yard par 4. Left the course in a good mood and got a free lunch after the round...which turned out to be the best tuna sandwich Ive had in years. I wanted to eat 2 of them, it was so good.... The only drag was getting some bad info from the locals who knew the course better than me. I d played it only 1 time since the beginning of the 1990s. On one par 3, it looked about 170 yards, but the guys I played with insisted it was over 200 yards and that is what the score card said. So I hit a hybrid, which went like 40 yards over the green after rolling down the slope...and I ended up with a 5. That sort of thing SUCKS....after hitting a good shot, believing the scorecard and other players....
