I just had an epiphany. Back in the late 90s and early aughts, the combined salaries of the actors on the show Friends totaled 6 million an episode towards the last few seasons. Granted, this was before the internet was the advertising beast it is now. So ratings the ratings not only allowed for this, they supported it. The show was popular. But what happens if your show has a bunch of semi big name actors, on a very popular show? How do you deal with rising salaries due to negotiations? Simple, you just kill everyone since the pilot episode. Like Game of Thrones. Its not plot development. Its cutting costs.
