I just posted this on someone elses thread, and am reposting it here: I am committed to doing my part to address the virulent racism, both subtle and overt, that saps the energy and the hope of so many millions of Americans. There are a couple of start-up initiatives nationally and in Massachusetts that are committed to focusing on people of different backgrounds (i.e., races,) working together in love, unity and appreciation for each other--- even as we confront the hard realities of racism and ignorance in ourselves and in others--- to build bonds of REAL FRIENDSHIP AND COMMUNITY, in the hopes of changing the consciousness on the ground, and ultimately addressing institutionalized racism in this country. There is a group called National Citizens for Race Amity, based out of Wheelock College, which has been in existence for over a year, and has a master plan, so to speak. I love what they are doing, because they are trying to change things OUT OF LOVE, APPRECIATION, AND RESPECT, not out of resentment, judgment, blame and guilt. Although I can totally understand and relate to completely justifiable rage and resentment, I have found that they just have very limited usefulness, (read: effectiveness). I recognize real potential in this initiative. Please check it out at wheelock.edu/ncra/.
