I just read a post on Nicks Epic Battle to Defeat Osteosarcomas - TopicsExpress

I just read a post on Nicks Epic Battle to Defeat Osteosarcomas page, written by his incredible mom. She referenced some people whove made negative comments regarding some of the things shared on the page. Some other moms have implied or even said straight out, that the page strips Nick of his dignity. Ive faced similar criticism here regarding what I share about Logan, and I once had a family member tell me I exploit Logan for a laugh. Id like to explain something about those of us who have chosen to share our journey. Sometimes things in life arent fair. They dont make sense. They are cruel, confusing and heartbreaking. When you are just trying to help your child live happily/comfortably, or just live at all, it can feel helpless, hopeless, and very, very lonely. For me, sharing has been a way to make it all mean something. If we can share our stories, the challenges/illnesses/losses will not be pushed aside or forgotten. If we can share, it may change how someone perceives our children, interacts with our children, accepts our children. Its so easy to disregard a challenged community, a terminally ill community, a silent community. They matter. Their stories, lives and journeys matter. We are their storytellers when they are unable to tell it. We are the keeper of these pages, the authors of their emotions, joys and struggles. To be dealing with something so life consuming, but be able to share a moment here allows us and our kids to feel supported, loved, and above all HEARD. The kids who fight every day are the stars of our stories, we are just lucky enough to be the ones to share them. Dont judge. Dont criticize. Dont turn your back. With all of the misery in this world, the story of a parent loving and sharing their child is beautiful. It may not always be sunny and happy, it might be raw and gut wrenching, but its real and it matters.
