I just received this from a friend, people please do take extra precaution to apply professionalism and high work ethics. Please note: This is not to generalize all Fijian caregivers, as a community we need to be aware of our surroundings and lead by example. Enjoy your weekend folks! ****************** MSG: Last night I was at the River Rock Casino with a friend for dinner and witnessed the most heart wrenching, horrible and despicable act of a Fijian caregiver. Making our way to the restaurant through the casino, we happened upon the most dreadful sight of a Causasian lady in her 90s probably, slumped in her wheelchair, sleeping, unattended to, in the middle of the smoke filled casino meelee, with its slot machines ringing away around her, and customers almost tripping over her on this busy Friday night. Immediately, I told my friend `I’m sure there’s a Fijian caregiver around here somewhere’, but since the place was busy we had to head on to the restaurant and make reservations. I came back to see the lady to see if she was alright and speak to her but she was way off into dreamland, and I didn’t want to wake her up, although I asked a security officer there what I thought had just happened to the lady… About an hour later, mind you, this is 9.00pm, a Fijian lady caregiver rocks into the restaurant pushing the wheelchair with the sleeping old day in it, and her entourage of two men and a woman…ALL FIJIAN … Unfortunately they chose to seat themselves across from me which gave me indigestion all throughout the meal and making me want to jump across and do the unspeakable to them. If that wasn’t enough they left the restaurant, of course with the little old lady not eating as it was past her bedtime, again dumping her in the middle of the casino, sleeping in her wheelchair while the group enjoyed themselves on the slot machines. My heart went out to the old lady, her family, children and grandchildren … I wish I could have spoken to her to give me a number to call, so her family could see the kind of people they’ve entrusted their grandmother too. I then spoke to a security guard to please talk to the Fijian woman about taking the old lady home, because if I had to do it, I would strangle her first before talking, much to the amusement of the gentleman. He did but they finally left at 11.00pm and my heart just broke for the poor old lady! Now you tell me if that isn’t abuse, or if that is a Christian-like thing to do? Every day, I see here on Facebook, individuals who are caregivers posting Bible verses, speaking of God’s love and professing to be Christians and yet resort to the most despicable acts of abuse as such… I’ve always heard stories of caregivers taking their clients to the casino, church services, social gatherings and finally witnessed such an incident last night! Where’s the love, the respect that we Fijians profess to share with everyone? Sa ivei na veidokai? People, this is someone’s mother, sister, aunty, grandmother, father, grandfather, aunty, uncle we’re looking after here and bloody well give the respect due to them!! And for heaven’s sake they are the ones that make you run to Moneygramm every week to send money home!!! If we have forgotten, these senior citizens have worked hard and saved all their lives to be able to live a dignified and decent life in their twilight years, and DAMN caregivers like the one I saw last night reduce them to mere banks that feed one’s self aggrandisement. I am too hurt to write any further about this subject, but we all know who we are and lest you forget that the God that we so profess we love is watching us too and the least you do unto these, you do unto Him! I hate to say this, tonight is another big soqo that everyone is looking forward to.... And God knows how many senior citizens are going to suffer this same fate… PLEASE don’t do it it’s too despicable!!!
