I just saw another person driving with their dogs loose in the back of their open pickup truck. I am not posting here to start a fight, just to inform and ask people to change a wee bit. Not only is this extremely dangerous for your dogs, it is also a violation of City of Terrace bylaw, but it also a violation of the Motor Vehicle Act. Many years ago I was traveling down a small, two lane highway. A person passed me with three, beautiful German Shepherds in the back of his truck. They were bouncing around and seemed to be enjoying their ride. I didnt see what caused the accident, but when I came up behind them, the truck was in the ditch and those beautiful dogs were splattered across the highway. I will never get the sound of their pain-filled cries and screams out of my head, nor will I ever forget the sight of their mangled, bloody bodies. A nearby farmer came out and shot each of them. We were a hundred miles from the nearest town with a vet and they were too broken and in pain to survive. Their person was in and out of consciousness and he had to make this decision while people worked to save his life. I have also witnessed dogs jumping out of the backs of trucks and one got hit by the car behind it. I saw another strangling off the side of a truck because of a tether that was just a bit too long. (It lived because we helped it and stayed with it until the owner returned and they got it to a vet right away.) I dont want you or your dogs to suffer this fate. Please, take that extra step and keep your animals safe.
