I just saw something at the coffee shop that is very rare these days, a parent disciplining his child. I didn’t see what he had done but as I rounded the corner on deck 2 forward there by the ATM machine was a Dad, getting hold of his 14 or so year old son by his collar and telling him in front of other guests to “ stop behaving like a child, grow up “ He was looking him right in the eye when he said this and the son was obviously taking the message in. There are people who in their sandals and between tofu lunches over the last decade or more have removed the right to expect kids to learn respect, self-respect, discipline and responsibility. We now have a whole bunch of kids who don’t understand simple core values. Parents who discipline their children are threatened with legal action and discipline in schools is over because the teachers are too scared to lose their jobs and be sued by the parents. Children growing up need guidance and respect for their parent and from what I saw this dad was giving some good old fashioned guidance and the son some good old fashioned respect.
