I just wanted to post this as an example of all kind of imperfections what happened to one plate during my first shooting outside, while testing self made dark box. You can see the moon craters on the plate, fogging, uneven developing, scratched off surface, oyster shells and even my fingerprint at the left on the bottom :) The reconstruction of events which caused these imperfections: The day was sunny and very windy. While I was pouring collodion on the plate strong wind raised small debris and the pollen from blooming trees, all that just sticked to the plate. Later when I removed the dark slide from the cassette the strong wind again blew the dark cloth away from the camera and bright sun hit the plate trough the leaking slot. This caused the fogging and strange moon crater effect. The debris stuck on the surface, unevenness of wet collodion and silver nitrate drops casted the shadows which look like craters on the Moon. I was already upset with the chain of events and absently poured the developer on the plate. This caused uneven developed right bottom corner. While crawling out of the dark box the gust of wind moved the dark cloth of the box and the corner of the cloth just hit the plate and scratched off a small part of collodion from it. And on top of all looks like the oyster shells were just silently waiting for the moment when the plate will be dipped in the fixer, then they showed themselves in all the beauty and completed the destructive cycle of these strange coincidences. Dave a month ago asked how to make dirty plates this could be used as a guide :) Though not sure if I could repeat this myself :)
