I keep edging closer to vegetarian. I like it or Im hungry is starting to feel like a really sloppy excuse for eating living things that dont really want me to eat them. Cows and horses have roughly the same intelligence but because we keep horses as pets people act horrified when we slaughter and eat them....all the while getting a dead cow sandwich in the drive through (for the record neither Gary and I eat beef or pork anyway). Cats and dogs are not significantly more intelligent than livestock, but because we love them like family we are outraged when they are senselessly killed..but dont give a real thought to creatures of similar devotion to their own lives ending up as a casserole for dinner. Im not all the way there yet (I was attacked by a flock of mean hungry chickens after my peanut butter crackers when I was three...thus am relatively unconcerned about chicken extinction...as long as they arent factory farmed..I buy farm raised free range) and Ive never met a fish that I thought was more than just a few brain cells and a tail, but hey....who knows!? I dont eat four legged critters now...I may move to no faces on dinner soon.
