I know I have posted this before but every year it touches someone and brings home an enduring truth for me: A True Family Story: My Grandmother fought a long and horrible battle with cancer. It seemed the worse it got, the more she fought. This went on for such a long time, it seemed that mercy was not in sight. On Thanksgiving, early in the wee hours, she went home to be with the Lord. What happened after that is what I will remember and cherish as long as I live. It was an unusual Thanksgiving for the Owens household. All my brothers and my sister were not home and spent the day with in-laws. Mother had cooked as usual, but only three of us (Daddy, Mother, Rob) sat down to Thanksgiving dinner. This is when I learned one of the most significant spiritual truths of our faith. As Daddy prayed, just hours earlier saying goodbye to his mother, he prayed a prayer of thanksgiving for his mother and for the fact that she would no longer endure pain and suffering. Dad taught me that even in horrible circumstances, there are blessings to be counted and a spirit of gratitude to share. It is difficult to be thankful for these things, but we can have a heart of gratitude IN all things. On this Thanksgiving, regardless of circumstances, may all of my fb friends take time to be grateful, whatever you are facing. God is at work and He loves us more that we can imagine. Blessings to each of you and Happy Thanksgiving!
