I know Ive said it before but Ill say it again. I think like many others, I am of the opinion that the government and the general population over simplifies NS. Sometimes it isnt just about the input and output but the level of stupidity and retardation that takes places in between. Im not a high achiever, but I believe 2 years in jc helped me to hone my mind to a state where, if pushed harder further for longer, would be able to accomplish more (if I were too modest to say much). But because of the ridiculous lack of mental exercise in the army, much if not most of my minds abilities (and Im definitely not the only one) has been lost to administrative inefficiencies and rubbish protocols that are in place because this is the army. I would gladly give 2 years to serve a nation that has provided(debatable) and more importantly to defend my family and loved ones but there has to come a point where somewhere up there(only by appointment and not virtue) realises that were wasting a significant portion of our nations most valuable resource when theyre in their prime. Till then Ive got no choice but to keep looping the edges of the system to not fall victim to the biggest inefficiency of this country(and thats saying a lot, given how singapore is). Most would consider NS a good break from school life and whilst I agree, its a break I wont take for the sake of not wasting every bit of effort from the past 6 years.
