I know anyone can choose any given AKC name they would like but there are some names that should be sacred. I always check to see if an AKC name I am considering has been used in my breed or if iy was a very well known dog, I would not use it. I think I am aware of most of the past dogs with well known histories but I still check k9data to make sure I am not using a name associated with a famous dog. Newer breeders, however, may not be aware of those dogs but that information is available in the database.
