I know everyone has been anxious to get an update on Snow & her - TopicsExpress

I know everyone has been anxious to get an update on Snow & her pups. There have been many feeling Snows disappearance doesnt make sense. However, it does when you consider Snow was under nourished, probably full of worms, & had 11 pups to try to feed & keep healthy. That is a lot of stress on a dog who has been neglected for a long time. And now that I have more details regarding Snows story & I want to share it with you. Snow showed up at the house of a woman in Bamberg County who does not have animals & is not an animal person. Snow was found curled in her husbands work shed ready to have pups. The couple does not have, & as far as we know, has not had, dogs before but they took her in & let her have her pups in their home. Most people the staff & volunteers at MAMAS have interacted with in the same situation would have shot Snow or brought her to the shelter & would have threatened to shoot her or throw her in the river. (I know! Ive been there when it has happened.) But this couple took her in & let her have her pups in their home. A couple weeks later, the wife went to MAMAS WITHOUT Snow & her pups to ask for help with placing them. She agreed to keep Snow & her pups at her home while Ruthie tried to find a rescue for them. As you know, we did find a rescue for Snow & as you know Snow disappeared last Thursday. Now that we know more about her disappearance, I kinda understand why the woman didnt call sooner. April Faris, MAMAS Board member who lives in Charlotte, called the foster yesterday & today to finalize plans to drive down to get the pups to care for them herself. The woman told April that right before Snow disappeared, she suddenly stopped feeding her pups & did not want to return to them. She would just lay on the couch & not move. She let Snow out to go to the bathroom & Snow took off for the woods. She felt that Snow was really sick & she ran off to die & that is most likely why she didnt call the shelter sooner. She saw it as a natural thing & not something the shelter could do much about. She did what she could for the pups in the meantime & hoped Snow would come back. She & her husband are not animal people but they grew fond of Snow, especially her husband. Today, her husband found Snow dead in his work shed curled up where they 1st found her. She went to die in the 1st place she found comfort with them. They are both saddened but her husband is crushed. Please remember they are not an experienced animal people but did all that THEY could. I personally appreciate what this couple has done given I have heard over & over again the way it seems most people in the area respond - with threats to kill or not even bothering with threats. They stepped up & did what THEY could do and the best that THEY could for Snow & her pups. The woman is so happy to hear the pups will be getting out of the county & on to a rescue where they will find loving, providing homes and not suffer the same fate as their mother. Most likely, Snow did all she could for her little pups. She nourished them until they were at an age they could be fed & cared for by humans. She held on as long as she could & when she couldnt anymore, she did what nature compelled her to do & left her pups in the care of probably the only 2 humans that truly cared for her & went off to die. Tomorrow April will get the 8 pups & bring them back to her home to care for them for a couple of weeks. Buffalo Paws & Claws is still committed to taking the pups but we may need to help with the cost of vetting for these fragile pups. I hope those who can will help with that part of our task now at hand to do what Snow cant do anymore - care & love her pups. We will keep you posted as we know more about what is needed. Now please excuse me as I go dry my eyes & blow my nose & let it all out. And, I hope you will join me in thanking this inexperienced couple who did all that they knew they could do for this family.
