Severe Weather Watch Valid to 9:38am Sunday 14 Dec 2014 SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, WAIKATO, COROMANDEL PENINSULA ISSUED BY METSERVICE AT 0938hrs 13-Dec-2014 PERIOD OF HEAVY RAIN AND STRONG WINDS FOR NORTHERN NEW ZEALAND DURING SUNDAY A low is expected to approach the Far North today (Saturday), then move slowly across Northland during Sunday. A frontal system associated with the low should bring a period of heavy rain as it crosses northern New Zealand, while easterly winds will likely rise to gale in exposed places for a time south of the low centre. A Warning has been issued for heavy rain in Northland, northern Auckland, Great Barrier Island and about the Coromandel Peninsula during Sunday. This Watch is for the possibility of severe easterly gales in Northland for a time early Sunday morning and in exposed parts of Auckland, the Coromandel Peninsula and in eastern Waikato in the lee of the Kaimai and Coromandel ranges during much of Sunday. People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case this Watch is upgraded to a Warning. This Watch will be reviewed by 9pm Saturday December 13th
