I know many people will see the beginning of this and scroll down and ignore and thats because humans are designed that way and its ok, but if you continue reading, thank you. I watched the movie Selma this weekend. Its a movie that focuses on the events of Selma, Alabama/Martin Luther King. Amazing movie. But thats not what Im trying to talk about exactly. In that movie there was a moment where people from across the United States came together to march together with our African American brothers. There was Caucasians, Latinos, Asians and many other races of people that came together for one struggle. The Caucasians (to be politically correct) joined the African Americans even though people of their race were causing the problem. You see that there? Some people that were not African American wanted to fight for the African American people. Why is it that when many of us are so comfortable with out lives that we dont fight for other people? Just because our lives are ok, we dont want to stand up for others who are going through a struggle. We worry more about video games, the newest phone out, getting money, but we forget that we are being selfish. We are only worrying about ourselves. Yes we have to work for families. Yes we have to go to school and get passing grades. Yes we need to have fun in our lives but theres always a way to find something you can change in your community. I cant stress that enough. Lets step out a little of our own world and see how we can fight for other people. How we can stand up for other people. We just started a new year and let it not be New Year, New Me, but New Year More Helpful Me. A lot of us sometimes want to get all the benefits for things that other people fight hard to get for us when we can be fighting a long with them. When you see somebody struggling with something it shouldnt be a black, white or brown thing, but a let me give you a hand were both humans thing. We arent in 1965 anymore, but just like the people of different races came together back then for something that didnt affect them directly, we can do something similar today. Not just fight our own fights, but help others fight theirs and together we can hold up each others hands in victory... Thank you for reading if you made it this far :)
