I know that the removal of the rear pickup cover on Ric 4003s is a subject of some contention. Nonetheless, Im going to heartily recommend this pickup bezel thats available from Pick Of The Ricks. No more must we tolerate that ugly open space, which is why most folks leave the cover on. This one is the cove model, which has a handy indent for your thumb. I no longer feel like I have to jump a fence every time I change right hand position. It also allows for perfect fine-tune balancing of the front & rear pickups, as the pole pieces are adjustable with a hex wrench. The install is super easy too. LOVE IT!! Also, contrary to other reports, the stock cover has NO insulation properties. Its chrome plated plastic. Only this, and nothing more. pickofthericks/
