I know that we are all following the story of Pearl Pearson and all want to support him. Right now their attorneys are working on collecting letters from the interpreting and the Deaf community explaining why a CDI is so important to have in court. They will give the letters to the judge to convince him to approve the interpreters for Pearls trial. So far they have some letters from interpreters, but none from Deaf, which they really need. The letter needs to explain why they should hire CDIs for Pearl. Feel free to share your own experiences of court or other important situations where there was not clear communication. It is also important to include an article or research or maybe something from NAD that proves and explains the need for CDIs in court. (Gary, you are champ at informational videos ha!) As a CODA myself, I understand that you may not feel comfortable writing a letter in English. This is nothing new to me. Although its not right for me to write a letter for anyone, I am HAPPY to edit a letter to make the English perfect before you email it. (I was a teacher for 15 years! HA!) We are not attorneys, we are not judges, we cannot heal Pearls physical body or his memory, but this is something we CAN do, not just for Pearls case, but for any Deaf persons case in Oklahoma for the future. The courts know nothing about the Deaf world, and this is our chance to EDUCATE them! Lets work together to support Pearl!
