I know this is the time of year when people sit down to catch up on all those box sets of TV series that they have missed. Several years later I still consider the BEST TV DRAMA series made to date is The Wire. In many ways it differs from many other series such as Breaking Bad. In most cases TV producers create one series and then if it is successful then they make subsequent seasons which can often result in more and more incredible story lines having to be created. The Wire on the other hand was written with the intention that it would be a five season story arch - like a novel. Basically the story is about the war of attrition between drug gangs and the police however, at the same time it features some very important subtexts about the way we live in modern society. I was moved to watch this originally because I saw a review by the often cynical TV critic Charlie Brooker.
