I learned a valuable lesson from my mother as my grandmother - TopicsExpress

I learned a valuable lesson from my mother as my grandmother passed away. She told me one day that she refused to give up, and that having goals during her stuggles helped her cope and conquer her grief. She was continuing to do school and multiple bible studies during that time. Many thought her crazy, but now I understand. She is a wise woman. Let me add, that even just coasting is not enough. When the human spirit is pushed to the breaking point, it begins to fall beneath the load. What it often forgets is that it has the help of the Holy Spirit and with prayer can more than bear the load. Attempting to coast is going to be a contest between you and the load. You have to muster some strength, pray, and grab for something more. When we are in times of difficulty and testing, we need goals to push for. This gives the tired soul hope for the future. As the preasure increases, we are tempted to give up, but if we have something more to aim for (no matter how big or small) then we have a reason to keep going. What did the writer of Hebrews say? Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of unseen things. When we drive for that something special in the midst of our hardest hour, then we exercise a form of faith. Dont give up. You can cry, you can scream in your pillow, and even whine to God, but dont give up! Set some goals to reach for. As you do this you will find that there is something each day holds that will drive you to a better existance. To my fellow leaders and pastors, do not hide your feelings from your family. If you are blessed as I am to have a loving wife, then express your angst to her and ask for prayer. You can verify this with the ladies, but women want to hear your heart. They love intimacy and like to know what you are thinking even if it is negative, just dont stay negative. Also, it helps your wife to see you are human and need help from outside yourselves. We are called to serve and lead, but not to walk silently through trials as though all is fine. Open up and allow confession to heal you. Set some goals. Pray. NEVER GIVE UP. LIVE LIFE ON PURPOSE. LOVE GOD. LOVE PEOPLE.
