I like this a lot. To judge by UT Austin, public universities have not fared any better than the private elite institutions in improving diversity in gender and ethnicity while worsening diversity of class. I can speak with some authority, having been there. A certain UT professor highly regarded in leftist circles, with well developed theories on gender and race, wrote a few years back on the improved diversity at UT and I commented in an e-mail that yes, it was true, but that campus is now the domain mostly of rich kids, more of them women and fewer of them white, but rich kids nonetheless. He responded as he had responded to every other argument I had made to him abut class, by ignoring me altogether.
