I lost my uncle this past evening and not like the time he went to Laredo Mexico because he wanted to get some really good mezcal. The fact that he was alive until now was a miricle and due in large part my mom and my Aunt Ponda. 15 years ago my uncle spent a year in the ICU before being sent home to die and literally left on his porch by the EMS crew that transported him. My mother and aunt spent the next year caring for my uncle, giving him rehab and teaching him how to walk and care for himself. Even after they they still spent much time caring for him. Ive not seen very many events I would call miracles in my years in the medical field but my uncles recovery was certainly one. Knowing my uncle, hell be causing a problem at the Pearly Gates while talking to St.Peter. But no doubt hell make it through (despite some of the things Ive seen him do but I will plead the 5th on that) and Im sure my grandparents will be their waiting on him. And his wife or wives. So my uncle RIP. And because I know you always favored Emily Dickenson, this is for you: by Emily Dickinson Because I could not stop for Death – He kindly stopped for me – The Carriage held but just Ourselves – And Immortality. We slowly drove – He knew no haste And I had put away My labor and my leisure too, For His Civility – We passed the School, where Children strove At Recess – in the Ring – We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain – We passed the Setting Sun – Or rather – He passed us – The Dews drew quivering and chill – For only Gossamer, my Gown – My Tippet – only Tulle – We paused before a House that seemed A Swelling of the Ground – The Roof was scarcely visible – The Cornice – in the Ground – Since then – tis Centuries – and yet Feels shorter than the Day I first surmised the Horses Heads Were toward Into Eternity
