I love it. The Cadillac commercial has to be one of the more - TopicsExpress

I love it. The Cadillac commercial has to be one of the more concise encapsulations of the self-serving grandiose mythology of the upper crust Ive seen. Yeah, you make your own luck all right, just like those born on third base really did hit a triple (honestly). Most who work hard are not wealthy. Many who are wealthy do not work hard. The idea that if you work hard, you too will somehow be in the top 1% has 99 to 1 odds against being true. Most Americans work hard not because they want to or even because they have a lot of Stuff but because they will get fired if they dont, just like the co-workers fired whose job they are now doing on top of their own. Americans work hard because they dont have unions to protect them and make damn sure they are not exploited. Having some arrogant corporate clown who probably did his best to kill the union in his company extoll his workers exploitations as virtues is sickening. French dont take the month of August off because they are lazy; they do it because federal law mandates generous paid vacation for all workers. Americans dont work all August because they are more virtuous (they might be, but that would be accidental). They work harder because they are not (so far) as effective at forming and maintaining unions, and tend to be more easily swayed by fallacious economic arguments that if the über wealthy enjoy lower taxes and fewer regulations, they will start hiring again one day. Europeans dont fall for that nonsense as easily. As for the Ford ad in retort, right on. Beat for beat, it makes Cadillac look silly.
