I love it when people who have never owned a business (and some who have never had a real job) want to lecture everyone on how the minimum wage should be higher and that companies can "afford" it. If you step back and take a logical look at it you would realize that business owners are in business to make money. Not necessarily to get "rich" but to start something that has a profit margin that makes sense for a return on investment over a given period of time. The business needs a certain margin to sustain itself and provide an income to owner/owners/shareholders/investors. The business must achieve the desired margin by any means (cutting overheads or raising costs). If costs go up, the price of their product goes up. If you want labor costs to go up then you can only expect the price of goods to go up as well. What good does that do? Nothing, except make everything more expensive. Do you want your grocery bill to go up $50/wk so that you can take home another $25/wk?
