I loved this vibrant and informative magazine since the Batterberrys started it back when we were in school...Food Arts was all that I would read in the late 80s and 90s. It was one of the best ways to know what was new and exciting, whats different, whos doing it in different cities and between endless kitchen shifts it was a great way to seek, and stay inspired between quarterly editions of Art Culinaire! The internet and television crushed a publication that I used to look forward to receiving...those images, tutorials and editorial just became as common and humdrum as the million food related websites we see daily...the internet can never match that rich printed quality. I was more inspired when information was not so instant...when you actually had to wait through the culinary grapevine to see or learn about something...figuring it out by simply having a picture as your guide...doing it over and over...and maybe the off chance that you communicate, stage or get to that restaurant miles away from your own to meet a colleague who saw food in a way that you may not have and shared that nuance with you. I guess in the end I am fortunate to have enjoyed the benefits of this culinary resource among many in my humble career...and I have so many issues in storage from the 80s and it is always fun to see chefs and center of the plate documented so well in photography and editorial that the culinary classics really never die ;)
