I made it a point to visit Café Blikle when I was in Warsaw in the Nowy Swiat. One of Polands oldest cafes - its been serving since 1869. It survived the Nazis- the building was destroyed during the Warsaw Uprising and the communist era during which, many private enterprises were closed down. Charles De Gaulle came here for the Packzis- Polish donuts (they sell 15000 in a day during peak season) and was instrumental in helping them stay open during the Stalin era. Pope John Paul II was also a customer and the Vatican called often to place orders. You may have to queue up for their rose jam donuts but its worth it!
