I make no apologies for lobbying/ advocating/ demanding MORE of everything and anything for Te Tai Tokerau. That has included, better funding and maintenance of rural roads, secondary roads (eg SH 10 and the stretch from the Brynderwyns to Dargaville and through to Hokianga, as well as Mangakahia Rd and the road to Russell from Whakapara) State Highway 1 from Cape Reinga to Johnsons Tunnels, flood mitigation, fixing Mangamuka Gorge, the stretch from Rangiahua to Mangamuka Bridge, Hikurangi to Kawakawa, the flood prone areas of Whakapara, Hukerenui, Kawakawas Three Bridges, the bottom of Turntable, Rangiahua/ Horeke turnoff, Matawaia, Pipiwai, Opahi, Hokianga, Whangaruru. Ive reinforced the need for the upgrade of the rail line to Auckland and the rail link to Marsden Point as well as improved coastal shipping. A month ago I met with the Northland Mayoral Forum and it was decided after the election MPs and all Northlands District Councils and the Northland Regional Council would work out a transport plan that will meet the future transport needs of the whole of Northland. Theres been predictable hysteria because I said Ive been told by a number of people in a number of hui with hapu/ iwi/ community leaders, to stop taking pot shots at the Puhoi to Wellsford highway. People will read what they want into anything they want. Ill just keep lobbying/ advocating/ demanding MORE of everything and anything for Te Tai Tokerau because thats the role of the MP.
