I met Karen Carter through Deborah Bryant Lawrence, who thought she would be a good fit for my interview series, Everyday People Project, which features candid conversations with people I have met along the way. I met with Karen in her home in Roanoke, Virginia, where we discussed her childhood in Germany, World War Two, her father being forced to write music for Hitler and how all of this influences her view of American life. In this first segment, Karen, a pastor, author and activist, reveals her thoughts on freedom, socialism, The Patriot Act, dishonest journalism, discrimination and what surprised her most about the United States when she emigrated from Germany in 1959. Check out Karens autobiography How I came to be who I am - Available on Amazon - amzn.to/Wh8kxd This video features the instrumental version of the song Ribbons by Casey Stratton, from his latest release Lantern Through The Labyrinth (store.caseystratton)
