I must say, it is a guilty pleasure of mine (which im really not guilty cause its not actually bad) to browse folks work history on LinkedIn. I have served on several hiring committees at my current workplace and so have reviewed dozens of resumes. Its a little picture of a part of someones life. All these dates and titles, with empty space in between. Life happens in the empty spaces, but the titles are all that we can read. I dont think you can learn tons about someone, but it is something. Some people I have known socially for several years, but never professionally. I know what they do, but not what they did, and what they did before that. Its guilty pleasure because it feels like a different sort of intimacy. I am always leery when I learn something I wasnt told, and so knowledge gained is power taken, and so feel like LinkedIn is a bit dry networking tool and bit private mirror, secret window kind of deal.
