I need you help against internet abuse....please share this....and express our power as internet users! Expedia had robbed me of $180 and it could happen to you! Dear Mr. Rogillio, Thank you for contacting Expedia.co.in regarding your complaint. I understand that you booked a hotel in Nepal. However, in Expedia, the prices are as per the local currency of the website used. Further, the hotel cancellation policy started 1 day before you confirmed the reservation. Thus, when you cancelled the reservation, there was a charge of 1 night penalty. As a gesture of goodwill, I am pleased to offer you an INR 500 coupon that will be added to your account and you can use that coupon for your future hotel reservations with Expedia. The voucher can be used for a booking made for at least two nights. This is not to compensate you for the experience however to empathize for the situation you had encountered. We value your feedback and would ensure that this does not arise in future again. Please send us a confirmation of your acceptance and we will add the voucher to your account. I appreciate your understanding and patience in this matter. Thank you for choosing Expedia.co.in. The website does not mention Indian Rupees or INRs at all! This was a hotel in Nepal and the currency of Nepal is rupees and a reasonable person would expect the hotel that is quoted in rupees to be Nepal rupees. It was not until the invoice email was sent that I saw I was charged in Indian rupees. I immediately went on-line and canceled. As you can see from the attached, the cancelation notice was received within 20 minutes of booking email. Again, the website does NOT say that the charges are in Indian rupees. I believe this to be deceptive and misleading. I wish to elevate this to the next higher level in the Expedia company. I wish to get this resolved without having to file a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and file a charge dispute with Visa for them to mitigate with Expedia. I’ve taken screen shots of the website I booked the hotel and it clearly does NOT say the charges are in Indian rupees. The prices say Rs, which is rupees. The rates are in rupees and I was in Nepal and booking a hotel in Nepal and it was reasonable to assume the rates were in Nepal rupees not Indian rupees! Why would anyone assume the rates quoted for a Nepal hotel be quoted in Indian currency?! That makes no sense. At least not to Americans. Again, please elevate this to your supervisors for this disposition. I think Expedia need to investigate this issue and change their website to make it clear they are charging clients in Indian currency. The way it looks right now, this might be considered internet fraud as there is a US Government agency that specifically looks at such complaints. I am sure Expedia does not intentionally wish to deceive their customers but I was clearly misled. I understand the reason Expedia charges the first night’s rent for cancellations within 48 hours is because the hotel must commit that room and therefore make it unavailable to be booked. But I canceled within 15 minutes and there is no way that 15 minutes, 48 hours out, caused that room to go unrented that night! Suggest this policy be looked to allow for bookings booked erroneously or under false pretenses be allowed to cancel within xx minutes. I am a relatively new Expedia customer and as you can see, my previous itinerary, I spent a lot of money thru Expedia (167970803531, Itinerary Total: $3,044.20) but unless this matter is resolved soon, I will not use Expedia again. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. Expedia offers the prices as per the website you using to book the reservation. As you visited our website expedia.co.in (India website) and book the reservation, your card was charged in INR. As per your hotel cancellation policy, you cancelled your reservation within the penalty window (25th May 2014). Hence, there was 1 night charge applied. I wish my response could be more favourable for you. Thank you for choosing Expedia.co.in. Kind regards, Naman Gupta
