I pass this enormous flag on the drive home from work. Im always in awe of it. Yesterday afternoon I decided to stop. I wanted to watch. I wanted to reflect. I decided to record a bit and share my thoughts with those willing to read. There are times when my flag is motionless. Other times a gentle breeze can nudge it in one direction. Then there are those times when an aggressive, chaotic wind attacks my flag. The result: an equally aggressive, chaotic movement. At least this is the appearance to an outsiders lens. In reality its much more different than this. In reality there is an underlying order to this perceived disorder. What you are seeing is something uncontrollable pushing my flag - our flag - to bend. In any manner conceivable. The flag bends because it has no choice. Its what flags are supposed to do when attacked by this force. It is only in this state that you see what this flag is capable of and what it can showcase when forced to do so. It showcases its beauty. It showcases its strength. It showcases its resilience. For you see, this flag bends. But it does not break. My country - our country - is no different. Sure we might bend but we do not break. And, like this flag, our country will stand above fear. Above terror. Above chaos. Above hate. When confronted with adversity our country - like this flag - will remain intact and united. Showing our beauty. Showing our strength. Showing our resilience. Never breaking. Like this flag our country will continue its united stance. A stance that is true. A stance that is strong. And a stance that is free.
