I rarely agree with Indy Star Sports writer/hack Bob Kravitz, but - TopicsExpress

I rarely agree with Indy Star Sports writer/hack Bob Kravitz, but if indeed this scenario of Pacers personnel is correct (its either Vogel or Stephenson who has to go), then my vote is to send a cheerleader of a coach packing. No doubt in my mind this whole stage has been set by Bird and its his devil to dance with, but lets hope yet again Kravitz is simply off his rocker and way off base. It is Vogel even more so than Bird that lost locker room continuity. Albeit Bird shipped off Granger and added Bynum which worsened the fray, but as GM it was sound logic to make those moves from a Pacer perspective. True the hit or miss Center was a miss. True that Turner WAS a bust and Allen has yet to make any impact what so ever for the team. True that several other locker room and off court actions by players were a large disruption to team chemistry. But the ultimately responsibility for the mentality of the Pacers lies with Vogel. Hes not an Xs and Os coach, Labron laughed at his drills in the All-Star game and he lacked any enthusiasm from any of his other players there, He allowed the Pacers to have a false sense of confidence both with their All Star break record and concerning their chances of winning a Championship, He encouraged the players to look to the officials in game and blame the lack of good officiating on poor play, He didnt look for consistent bench play regular season find roles for players to come in situationally and he failed to draw up even a simple inbounds play or any play other wise in TO huddles. Thats just the major malfunctions Im aware of. Dont get me wrong, folks, Vogel is a nice guy, well spoken and handles questions and media well, but he pales to the light of a Popovich and cant out coach Spoelstra, who in my mind isnt much of a coach either, but certainly is better than Vogel. Id put up with a season for Vogel to redeem himself, but if they allow Stephenson to walk, then I may not be a Pacer fan again any time soon. And I wonder if Bird should go too. Loosing Granger and Stephenson for one player (the likes of Allen) would be more embarrassing to me than to fire the coach with the best record in the NBA. After all, according to Charles Barclay, the Pacers were the most talented and best team in the league last year.
