(I read the attached article this morning which triggered me into sharing all this.) Many of you know that in the spring I was accepted to Parsons The New School for Design for a Masters in Fashion Studies, with an amazing scholarship. Literally my dream school. My dream program. My dream CITY. Everything I wanted out of my next milestone. Fewer of you know that after months of stressful decision-making and personal mental health struggles, I decided to decline the offer. And almost every time I tell someone that, they look at me in awe, thinking Im absolutely insane to throw away the opportunity. As much as it pained me to make the decision as well, I made it because i realized that my real dream was sitting right in front of me. Starting Wear Your Label has been one of the most difficult, but rewarding things Ive ever done. While starting a business at 20 isnt everyones ideal, and some people think its miserably unstable, I cant imagine doing anything else right now. This may be the only time in my life where its utterly okay to not have a long-term plan, to live and make decisions entirely for myself and my passion, and to grow alongside something that I can call my own. Im not crippled by a hierarchy, Im not un- or underemployed like I may have been otherwise - I am creating my own perfect destiny. This is my next milestone and its just beginning.
