I really do appreciate Churches that celebrate Halloween. Halloween of course is so far from any Pagan worship now anyhow. Its very much been Americanized and Capitalized and is pretty far from anything but a gathering of neighbors to eat candy. Our church had a wonderful Halloween (Harvest) Festival this year. Apart from having food for everyone, they set up an Enchanted Forest in the fellowship hall with fog and black lights and scary looking trees that me and Tiff painted. I handed out candy to the kids, and we all went trick-or-treating. My dad is the youth pastor and he said he takes great pride in the fact that our church celebrates Halloween. He sent us out in groups of trick-or-treater and gave us stacks of Thank You cards on behalf of our church to give to the houses we visited. Its a brilliant idea. That cards have information for our church and invite people to come visit us, and of course are a very polite Thank You that most people dont get on Halloween. Halloween is very much a community holiday, and I agree that churches can take wonderful advantage of it, and a lot of churches do. Its a unique opportunity to organize a safe evening for kids, and also a great way to reach out to people in your community without making them feel all weirded out. However, I do draw the line at some of these Hell-Houses that some churches put on... But I wont go into that.
