I really dont get environmentalists...Why do they want to try and keep the planet exactly the same? THAT is true manipulation, since the planet is in constant flux. Species go extinct all the time and new ones are continually discovered. They are so concerned by the obsolete creatures that natural selection has decided to remove yet ignore the ones that thrive in human environments (birds, rodents, insects, cats, dogs etc). So which is it? Do they wish to protect the earth or ourselves? If its the former, why bother? The earth is fine. There is nothing we could do that even comes close to the damage nature does to itself. Tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, tidal waves, volcanoes, SUPER volcanoes. If its the latter, and I really think it is, then we are blind to the real threat. Asteroids. There are several rocks on orbits that pass by very close to the earth. Just one could obliterate our civilization. Those are just the ones we know about. If these environmentalists really knew what was best for them they would be desperately promoting space travel. Having all our eggs in one basket is the greatest risk to our survival. Period.
