I really dont want to be this person. In fact, I despise the people who ruin holidays with their rants. But, I really cant stay silent anymore. Im so tired of the Ferguson sensationalism. Im sorry that a black man who was leaving a robbery got killed by a white police officer after a struggle. I actually think the police officer used excessive force and was 100 % in the wrong in the final shots. However, lets stop making this a race war that everyone can Instagram photos from protests to seem involved, when a month ago they were politically inactive and had no idea what its like to live with gun violence. Well, I do. My Daddy was shot down and left for dead while closing up our grocery store to come home (made it to ICU at Vandy, not home) , my granddad was shot and paralyzed from the waist down during an attempted home robbery (made it to wheelchair for life, not bed) , and my dear friend was shot in the neck and killed during a college dispute over a bit of marijuana (made it to the grave, not graduation). What did they all have in common? Their shooters were black.You know how much that matters to me? Not one damn bit. What matters is the poverty and hopelessness the shooters found themselves in to get to that point. There were no protesters for my Dad. In fact, there was no one but my Momma there to clean his blood off the floor of the store the next day. There were no protesters for my granddad as he went though months of therapy, learning to be a farmer who cant use his legs. Theres still no justice for Charles Austin Corn, a former UT student, with a brilliant mind and kind heart. Can you guys please, for one moment, imagine the outrage, if I were to suggest that any one of them were shot because they were white.
