I received a letter in the mail from the Lewis County Assessors - TopicsExpress

I received a letter in the mail from the Lewis County Assessors office this past week asking questions about my Rental units. How many bedrooms, how much rent I charge and who pays the utilities. Im a little hesitant to fill it out and send it in because I know that anything I write down will only be used against me and the final outcome my assessment will be raised and in turn higher taxes. The way I see it, if my taxes raise in turn my tenant rent increases. How do they consider this good for our community. Im already claiming rental income on my State and Federal tax returns. It reads Accuracy in the information you provide will result in a more accurate valuation and fair taxation of your property. Fair taxation? I dont see that being too positive for me. Is my privacy being invaded? Are they now allowed to come into your home and assess? Anyone have and comments, good or bad?
