I recently listened to a teaching by Jonathan David Hesler called Songs of Deliverance, and its based off of Romans 8:15: For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, Abba Father. Abba is the most intimate and personal word for a father-figure in Hebrew. Calling God Abba is essentially calling Him daddy. I used to call my dad that all the time, and occasionally, I still do. Because hes a wonderful dad. But God has adopted us as his children, and we have been given the chance to call Him dad. Hes not some great, distant, being aiming a lightening bold at our heads; He is Emmanuel, God WITH us. He is personal. He is Abba. When we realize that we are His children and therefore heirs with Christ, its a gamechanger. An identity changer. My mind is blown thinking about this. God pulled us from the mire so that we could be His. Please take a listen to this brief, beautiful sermon. Its only about 20 minutes and well worth it. youtu.be/2PwH-rWoK8I
