I recently met a start-up entrepreneur who has built a decent business and has fair traction over the last 12-15 months. His challenge was how to grow his business (even Google, FB has the same challenge, isnt it?). I asked him how much he was spending on marketing and he said less than 2% of his top-line was spent on marketing while nearly 30% was spent on sales. Question : Do Indian start-ups ignore marketing, brand-building, positioning and are therefore paying the price for not being discovered ? Question : What do you recommend as the budgeted spend for marketing as %age of top-line for start-ups? Question : How can the ecosystem enablers help start-ups improve their marketing capacity & capability?
