I registered Catherine on Sunday filling out the online application to start the process for her to audition for her first choice high school, which is Special Music School in the City. Theres only 50 spots in all of New York City and Im so worried she wont get in....thats where she really wants to go. So, just from the application and her resume, they are actually seeking her out for something they do on weekends and special events all around the City called Face the Music. Im so so thrilled for her and I hope this helps as an in for her. Heres a bit of the email: Dear Catherine (and parents) - I would love for Catherine to come play bass with Face the Music, this year, on Sundays. It will give her a chance to play with other students from the SMS High School, as well as other students from all over the NYC area. Face the Music meets on Sundays, in the MLK building, on the bottom floor (where SMS High School has space). It is a very special ensemble, playing music by living classical and jazz composers, and there are almost 190 students who attend, every week. Face the Music has been profiled in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and graduates of the ensemble attend many prestigious music schools including Juilliard, MSM, Eastman, and Northwestern. I am wondering if Catherine could play bass on a special piece that Face the Music is doing for the MATA festival, on November 17th. Rehearsals happen on Sunday, from 5 to 6 PM, at the MLK Building, in the SMS High School classrooms.
