I remember when I was a lot younger and less confident, how catcalling effected me. I was waiting for my carpooling ride to work one morning and would stand on the street. One morning while waiting a car went past and the male occupants whistled out at me. My carpool was behind them and saw what happened. The next morning when my carpool came to pick me up they had to beep because they couldnt see me. I was standing behind a tree so no one could see me. I got in the car and they said you alright? Is this because of the whistling guys yesterday? I answered yep. Just dont want to get hassled. Now I think back and realise how much power over space I relinquished because of feeling threatened and intimidated by men in cars driving past. Thanks for this Ruth.
